Then she led her to the bed and situated her on the thick comforter before collecting her medical bag. The woman was a nervous wreck and needed something to calm her down before she spiraled out of control.

After taking her blood pressure and vital signs, she decided a sedative was in order.

Carmen was still crying and shaking, and her chest was heaving. The last words she uttered before she drifted into a peaceful rest were, "You do not understand, Senorita. There is a secret that threatens to destroy me. My Raymond - he is the father of little Dona...."

"There are too many secrets in this valley," Silver eased out into the silent room, knowing that for now she must find Juan and inform him that his sleeping contessa was safe. However, she would mention nothing of Carmen's heartbreaking secret.

She found Juan in an intense conversation with Miguel on the patio and heard her name escape in the conversation as she approached but was unsure of which man had uttered her name. And why should they be discussing her?
