Winnie Roast - a short love story by Sky Taylor, Page 4

His comment made her eyes grow two sizes through the dim lighting and she hugged the white mutt closer to her.

"No, I wasn't aware of such," she eased out, a bit spooked.  "Do-do they attack small things?"

"Yep.  I don't imagine that your baby will be safe on its own, ma'am," Rich told her.

"Oh that's terrible," Susie blurted out, drawing a hand to her throat in the process.  If anything ate Precious she'd just die.  She'd just lay down and die.

"Do you care if I move my tent over here?" she asked, Rich narrowing his eyes in the process.

Rich held back a cough, the dog smelling like talcum powder.  Probably perfumed flea powder he went on to contemplate.

"Please?" she asked again.  "We won't be any trouble, I assure you.  Why, I'll even join in on the singing.  I-I'm a good soprano."

"I-I can't believe you told them I was your-your concubine!  And-and your accent was horrendous.  I don't see how they managed to swallow your shallow act," she mused incredulously, trying desperately to cope with the lie that Kade had managed only moments ago to the three strangers.   Click to continue
