Winnie Roast - a short love story by Sky Taylor, Page 3 With their business completed, she stationed Precious in her arms and followed the loud noise emitting from the camp upwind. Try to be fair, she silently lectured herself. She'd never done well around people, perhaps because she had never been close to anyone. From the time she had been a tot she'd been shuffled from one foster home to another. People caused far too much grief, she decided amid her steps, the cool night breeze feeling nice against her skin. The troupe was in the middle of a rather boisterous tune when Rich glanced up, sensing another presence. Expecting Danny, he was momentarily startled to see a blond-haired lady dressed in red satin pajamas holding a little white mutt - like a beautiful apparition through the dark. As the boys continued to sing, he rose and neared her saying, "Hi there." "Hello," Susie drawled, not wanting to make trouble. However, if she didn't get her forty winks, she'd look like a prune come morning. And there would be no getting along with Precious as she tended to get cranky without her proper rest. "I'm camping just down the way from here," she told him, nodding towards where she had came. "We're too loud?" Rich asked, picking up on the situation quite quickly. He realized the troupe of boys had been rather vocal, but it was still early in the evening. Most campers didn't turn in until after midnight. "Yes, I'm sorry to say," Susie nodded. "It's so loud that my baby can't sleep. I-I don't want to cause any grief." Rich looked to one side of her, attempting to see her tent in the distance and failing to do such. Not smart, bringing a baby on a summer camping trip he silently criticized. Too hot for a baby. And surely she hadn't left it alone? "You realize there are wolves and coyotes in the area?" he asked, hoping that she would get the message. "Bears, too."
The Concubine (25 pages) Kade narrowed his eyes at her through the sunglasses as she attacked again, her mouth so sunburned that it looked like a blow fish. One that wouldn't shut up. "I-I can't believe you told them I was your-your concubine! And-and your accent was horrendous.
