Winnie Roast - a short love story by Sky Taylor, Page 2 Within seconds, he had stroked up a massive campfire, the boys all oohing and aahing as they began to roast their winnies, the power of fire igniting excitement. Gosh, he loved these outings - nothing quite like getting in touch with nature with a load of kids on board. Everything seemed to entertain them - something was always new. And for such a large group, there wasn't much squabbling. Even when Danny's van had broken down, they pitched in to help, transferring all the gear to his van. Two trips had been necessary to transfer everyone to the campsite, but they had taken the incident lightheartedly. Yes, nothing like a roaring campfire, a dark sky, a few hot dogs, scary stories and a round of a hearty song. He favored the one that the boys were all barreling out now. Yep, nothing like a peaceful campout. Susie jerked up into a sitting position on her satin sleeping bag, yanking the eye mask from her. Those young monsters who had arrived a short time ago in the neighboring campsite were making far too much racket! They had not only disturbed her, but her dog Precious as well. Precious looked up from the foot of the sleeping bag delivering a pitiful mewl, Susie's frustration swelling. Thirty minutes later, the noise had only grown louder. Didn't these idiots realize that other campers were trying to sleep? And the smell of that smoky campfire was seeping into her tent, stinking up her hair and Precious' white fur. And she had just been to the groomer. Bother! Standing and brushing off her red silk jammies she told the little white doggie, "Come, Precious! Let's go take a tt then we'll go have a powwow with the rowdy camp neighbors." Precious barked in agreement, hopping into Susie's outstretched arms as she bent slightly to catch her. Unfortunately, Mother Nature couldn't wait for either her or Precious as it was a good quarter mile to the potty building. Unlike Precious, Susie had never been into squatting, but had little option.
The Concubine (25 pages) Kade narrowed his eyes at her through the sunglasses as she attacked again, her mouth so sunburned that it looked like a blow fish. One that wouldn't shut up. "I-I can't believe you told them I was your-your concubine! And-and your accent was horrendous. I don't see how they managed to swallow your shallow act," she mused incredulously, trying desperately to cope with the lie that Kade had managed only moments ago to the three strangers.
