Wildflowers, a Free Online Love Story by Sky Taylor - Page 2
His foreman Greg - not so much. Greg preferred extended conversations - taking his time in getting his thoughts across, something that irritated the devil out of Ty. Nonetheless, Greg held tenure over Briscoe by two years and had been with him since the beginning of the ranch ten years ago. Together, the three of them had slowly carved out a respectable operation - but it had taken a lot of hard work and dedication. “Looks like the best harvest we’ve had thus far,” Ty eased out, the dark eyes studying the wheat crop along with Briscoe. “Yep.” “Where’s Greg?” Briscoe jerked the straw out from between his lips and tossed it to the ground. Continuing to avert Ty’s gaze he drawled in a disgusted tone, “With your wife.” Ty was momentarily staggered - unable to respond. Amid the uncomfortable silence Briscoe added, “Has been since you left for supplies.” Ty straightened, trying to gain control of his emotions. A few seconds ago he had been admiring Briscoe’s direct approach, those thoughts suddenly coming back to bite him. Surely he was joking? Then again - no he wasn’t. That disgusted look…the tone of his voice spoke volumes. And Briscoe wasn’t the joking sort. “How long has this been going on?” he finally managed, his voice not as steady as he would have preferred. “I spect quite a while,” Briscoe considered, turning his glance to him, his steel-blue eyes connecting with Ty’s. “I finally put the puzzle together this morning.” Ty nodded briskly, then removed his hat as he headed for the truck, Briscoe remaining as he eased out to himself, “Gonna be one hellava of a showdown.” Ty’s hands were shaking as he steered the truck towards the ranch house, desperately trying to come to grips with his emotions.
