The Chief was quite captivating. He wore a massive headdress mounted with eagle quills. Ermine tails dangled from the seams of his ceremonial shirt. He wore a necklace made of deer hooves and his feet were shod with colorful moccasins fringed in new leather. His face looked wise and weathered, and his hair was the color of talcumed sands.

Quatrain was roped back to the present as the mock ceremony ended and Colt's large arm capped around her shoulder, leading her towards the Chief. Four Indians remained and she felt coaxed into performing the introductions.

"Colt, meet Chief Flapping Mouth, Orville, Laffing Beak, Tomahawk Joe and Little Big Wolf," she introduced, hoping she'd correctly identified them all. She had only been to the reservation a handful of times and feared her memory was vague and cloudy.

"Come inside teepee," the Chief finally decided through the silence in clipped English, even though he was very fluent in the language as was Orville. They were being treated to their round of tourist talk. "We have nice powwow with new silver badge. Woman stay here," he instructed, indicating that Quatrain wait outside.
