When Colt came to collect Quatrain early on Monday, the ground was still wet with morning dew but the gray clouds had rotated away from the sun and promised a bright, new day.

Colt had brought the blue sport's car again, although a horse may have proven a better mode of travel. The trail to the reservation was long, up into mountains that held snow-fed streams scarred by deep canyons and gullies. But obviously, it was a well-traveled trail as Quatrain's brothers and the restless Indians had recently proven.

He was looking forward to spending the day with her. Again, she looked like a million bucks, only a lot more fun. He found difficulty concentrating on the drive, and they exchanged light conversation, Quatrain seeming to relax a bit towards the end of their trip.

When they reached the area containing the ponderosa pines, Colt veered to the left and the reservation came into view. Hogans dotted the land as did several huge teepees, more for the sake of sightseers than for practical use.
