A Free Love Story - White Lightning, a Sky Taylor romance - Chapter 1 - Page 1

"My knees are gettin' chilly, baby," Jackson Kenyan mumbled as he pulled his straw hat down over his silver hair.

Quatrain draped a blanket over her grandfather, the fabric tightly woven and of good craftsmanship. Her brothers had bartered for it with the Navajos on the nearby reservation.

It was too cold for even a young man to be outside, but she knew it was useless trying to infuse such into her grandfather's set ways. He was as hard-headed as he was kind, the combination making him a Kenyan.

He loved the outdoors. Due to such Quatrain thought it was sad that he wasn't in a place that he loved to be - a situation which had been brought on by the unexpected passing of her father and the promise that both men had made as he lay dying. Grandfather had given up his life on the river to become an unrequited truck farmer in order to oversee her and her five wild brothers. But they were grown now and Quatrain knew it was time for the wild eagle to fly free. But that seemed much easier said, than done.

"Grandfather, you really should come inside the house and sit by the fire. It's too cold out here for you," she scolded as she tucked the edges between his withered legs and the wooden rocker, one he'd made with his own hands over fifty years ago.
