Wedding Planner: Birdseed or Rice?

THE RICE TOSS:

Birdseed seems to have slipped nicely into the place of rice as it comes with its own clean-up crew - thanks to our feathered friends. There are so many different ways to display your bags of birdseed. A few ideas are provided in this section that may string a few ideas of your own.

Net Bags & Bows:

Tie your birdseed in inexpensive netting that matches your wedding colors. Use delicate ribbon to tie packages. Place the birdseed bags in a pretty basket that has been accented with bows and silk, or real flowers. Cedar or pine branches also make very nice accenting decorations. And if your wedding coincides with a holiday - let your imagination run wild.

Plant Your Birdseed Bags

Place your decorated birdseed bags in an empty flowerpot be creative. Clay pots are always pretty you can even decorate the exterior of the pot with bows, pearls, craft paints or tiny plastic doves. Or, go with a pot that matches the ‘theme’ of your wedding.

If your wedding occurs at the beach or near water, use a sand pail to hold your birdseed bags. Or, choose a container that compliments your job occupations. If the groom is a fireman, use a fire hat if the wife is a businesswoman, use a briefcase.

WEDDING CELEBRATION IDEAS & IDEAS

Wedding Sparklers

If your wedding takes place at night, why not light up the night with romantic sparklers? They’re the next best thing to fireflies and make a dynamic send-off.

Toasting Glasses

Splurge on, or borrow, two nice champagne glasses for your wedding toast. This adds elegance to the wedding party. To create fancy glasses, wrap a small strip of wide fancy lace (any color you wish) around the stem of your glasses tie with delicate pastel bows that match your wedding colors and add matching rosettes.

Bubbles

Can’t afford a neat bubble machine? Buy a few containers and ask the kids at the wedding to ‘do their stuff’. What a fantastic way to occupy the little munchkins and add romance to your wedding at the same time!

WEDDING SIGN-IN BOOK OR WEDDING REGISTER - Generally, a Wedding Register is posted on a stand, or on an elegantly decorated table so that guests can sign in. Even years later, the bride and groom can look at the book to remember who attended their wedding.

When you’re in the eye of the wedding, it’s difficult to concentrate on anything except getting married. You may not even remember half the people that attended the event, much less a wedding gift they gave you, so a sign-in register is a very good idea.

Wedding Registers can be purchased at most retail outlets. They are borne in a variety of colors, fabrics and formats that will capture your wedding memories for years to come.

If you’re looking for something unique, try laminating a photo of you and your fiancée, making the finished product as big as a place mat.

Or, instead of using a photo of you and your fiancée, you can use anything you like, such as a popular band you both adore that perhaps sings ‘your song’.

Ask the wedding guests to sign the ‘place mat’ with an indelible black marker. After the wedding, you can have this keepsake framed.

You can also carry this idea to a pillow. Purchase a unique pillow; they sell everything from animal-shapes to hexagons now. Again, ask your wedding guests to sign the pillow. They can even add a personal wish when they sign.

How about making your Wedding Register? Buy a simple notebook, cover it with thin foam, then any fabric such as velvet, silk, netting or lace. You can attach pearls, lace, doves, fabric roses – any romantic item to the cover. Fill the notebook with lined sheets so your guests can sign in. You may wish to use some unique paper as suggested with invitations to fill the Register.

Spray or dust with perfume, cologne or powder if desired to create a romantic scent!
