Jake hid a smile as Owen jerked upright, a strand of his blond hair whipping back in the process.  Boss my foot.  Betty was in charge of the relationship and the entire family knew it, Jake silently mocked.

Betty came over and delivered a quick peck to Jake's cheek, telling him, "Long time no see.  I guess that Pixie's been keeping you pretty busy these days.  Any hope of a wedding in the near future?" she teased.

Jake had always loved Betty to pieces.  Beautiful, charming, good sense of humor - a bit like his Pixie, only he was certain that Pixie might be able to distinguish a real diamond from a fake diamond.

"Now Betty, you know that Pixie has made it quite clear that she isn't ready for marriage-"

"Bull," Betty disagreed, shaking her dark locks in the process.  She had always reminded Jake of an overgrown little girl because she had such a youthful appearance.  She'd probably be ninety and still look nine.

Betty continued, "Women say one thing and they mean another. Pixie's been ready for marriage for months now."
