Relief flooded over her and then the stranger stirred, tossing glazed eyes up to her, his brows drawn downward in a frown as his deep voice wretched out a haunting moan. Then just as swiftly, he slipped back into unconsciousness and knew no more for the time being.
Kimber expelled a deep breath, drawing one fragile hand over her forehead in unsung relief. Working quickly, she cleaned the wound and applied ointment and a white bandage, silent thoughts propelling questions in a thousand directions in her mind. She only hoped that his fall from the sky hadn't contributed to any broken bones or damaged organs. And she still hadn't decided if he was a devil or an angel - but fallen he had and in a big way. He was darn lucky to be alive. She gazed at his peaceful looking face, satisfied with her efforts. Again she pondered what had she may have saved. Man or beast? Soon, she would find out but for now, the events of the day were settling in with summer's nightcap - the unexpected appearance of the copter, the discovery of the stranger, the long journey home and the removal of the bullet were all a bit more excitement than she was used to, and Amigo as well for he was already settling in by her chair, slipping into peaceful rest. |
