Linda wasn't fazed by the attack, and even shooed away Dakota's response, wanting to address the angry Dixon herself.  

" Dixon, if I were you I'd take Dakota's advice and let's just enjoy our meal.   The last thing that I would want to do is embarrass my future daughter in law.   Besides, my son's choice for a bride is none of my business and not my decision to make.   Now, anyone want some of Margo's lovely hot chips?"

Later that evening, Kimber took a solitary moonlight stroll to walk off the heavy meal and to come to grips with her rampant thoughts concerning Dakota, the engaged groom-to-be. She wondered where her dog might be and was intent on finding him.   She hadn't seen him since she'd arrived today and hoped that he didn't feel she was neglecting him.   Soon, Jezebel would arrive - his girlfriend, she secretly smiled.

The breath of the black night's cool wind felt good against her hot face.  She could make out the ranch silhouetted against the dark sky in all its grandeur and the comment that Dakota had made to her about his preference for the tiny cabin stirred her thoughts.   Did that comment have anything at all to do with her, she silently wondered.

And what did he think about her ridiculous outburst to Dixon - the 'Engagements are made to be broken' outburst?   How embarrassing and how totally out of line!   Even though Dixon had been cruel, Dakota was still engaged to her. Obviously, he preferred her!

She was suddenly greeted by a stranger through the darkness, her heart jumping to her throat....

" Dakota?" Kimber called out, trying to make out the form quickly approaching her.
