It suddenly appeared to Kimber that the assailants were after more than Mr. Tanner's money.   This wasn't good....   What if the assailants decided to return?   To make certain that Mr. Tanner was done-for?   Assailants?   Several?   Perhaps just one?

" Oh God," Kimber eased out, frantically forming a plan to get her and the stranger back to the cabin as quickly as possible.  

For now, removing the bullet would have to wait.   At least it didn't appear to be lodged too deeply, but the free-bleeding had to be halted asap.   Grabbing the hem of her sundress, she applied pressure to his shoulder and after several minutes, the bleeding finally subsided.   Lucky for Mr. Tanner that he was mentally rowing through La-La Land because that would have hurt.

By a stroke of good luck she located a large metal sheet just off the beaten path.   It was rusty, but it would have to do.   The holes would aid in the pulling process as she could thread his belt through the end and drag him along.

There was a multitude of bird conversations going on about the woods now that the sound of the helicopter had faded.   That was a good sign.   If the birds were to suddenly go silent, it would trigger the presence of yet another stranger.   So as Kimber quickly worked in creating a gurney from metal, she kept her ears open to the sounds of the live woods.
