Linda's thoughtfulness was almost overwhelming.   " Oh, Ms. Tanner-"

" Linda, please call me Linda," she insisted.

" Linda, that's not necessary - I mean, shopping for the little ones.   I don't want to impose on your hospitality-"

Linda halted her, grasping her by the shoulders and gazing hard into Kimber's startled face as she told her, " Kimber, whether you like it or not, I've adopted you and your family. Because you cared enough to save my son's life, I care deeply about you and yours.    And frankly, there's nothing you can do about it, either."   Then, " Now, let's go into the study for some juice  and cookies, shall we?   Just like Vacation Bible School - if only we had some tuna and pimento cheese sandwiches - heavy on the Mayo....."

Dakota's mom was a chatterbox, which wasn't exactly a bad thing. For the moment, it helped to fill in the gaps, and soon Kimber found herself relaxing, totally charmed by the fascinating woman.

Their peaceful powwow was soon intervened by a red headed woman with emerald green eyes who entered the room, her tone laced with sarcasm.   " I heard secondhand news that Dakota has returned."

Kimber wasn't certain if it were a statement or a question but she was sure of the tension firing between Linda and the stranger who went on to worsen matters by demanding, " You are very easy to dislike, Linda.   Why didn't you immediately apprise me of the situation?" Then, " He may be your son, but he will soon be my husband.   You'd do well to remember that!"
