“Well? I’m all ears,” he mocked, lifting his brows, seized with impatience as his friend deliberately took his sweet time in sharing his so-called solution.
“Find a woman who is financially secure - that should solve things,” he finally rolled out, puffing out his chest like a dazed adder.
Howie slapped Marvin on the shoulder, telling him, “Bad idea. Chase would be embracing the very thing he finds so…..despicable - getting involved because of money. Sure, it’s the flip-side, but not a solution.”
“Suppose you have something in mind?” Marvin challenged, folding his arms in front of his paisley red and green flannel shirt.
“Yeah, as a matter of fact, I do,” Howie told him. “I’d suggest a woman who isn’t into chasing.”
“Like…where am I gonna find that?” Chase drawled in a mocking tone, deciding to fold his arms as his friend Marvin had done. “Conversation over.”
“Not so fast,” Howie advised, his face suddenly holding a mysterious gaze. “Here comes your dream girl now.”
Chase’s glance revolved to Echo who was approaching the table, her face holding that same-old-same empty expression he had come to expect from her. It wasn’t exactly sour, as she was always polite.
However, there was something very eerie……almost troubling about this woman who he knew very little about. She had arrived in town about a year ago and had worked at the café since. Definitely, nothing bubbly about her - nothing that would make him want to be with a woman so morose….so mysterious - and in a bad way.
