"We'll manage," Sundance smiled.  "We always do."

Sheraton enjoyed her time in the meadows, the ride helping to clear her thoughts.  Perhaps it was time to start focusing on her own life rather than her uncle's. Maybe it was time to move east - to where jobs were plentiful.  She had faithfully tried to secure employment since she had lost her job at the clinic to no avail.

When she returned to the main house her attention went to Nick as he frantically entered the den.  He looked anxious, ill and wet, like some fish.

"Oh, thank God!  There you are!" he rushed out, going to meet Brick who had just descended the stairs.  

Nick brought out a white linen handkerchief and mopped his wrinkled brow, then tossed out nervously, "Mother is back. Her damned flight was canceled. She is driving me crazy.  I don't know how much longer I can stomach her. She's an unwanted roach."

" Now look what you’ve done!" Travis convicted with malice.

 

" What?   Me?   You’re the idiot," she accused.

 

She stopped arguing instantly and stood in mystified horror as he began collecting the dainty, more personal objects and then started stuffing them into the open case.

 

" Just what do you think you’re doing!" she huffed, jerking a lace bra from him.   But he had such a firm grip on the thing that it ricocheted from her hand and popped him tartly on his doubled fist. Click to continue
