SUDDEN THUNDER, a Short Love Story - Page 5 “Yes - to Shreveport, but I’ve got business in Kanoke. Do you have any idea where that town might be? I must have taken a hundred different turns - passed a blip in the road to the east about five miles from here.” “That was Kanoke.” He narrowed the dark eyes at her as if something just dawned on him. “Then I would think that the odds are - your brother is the gentleman that I need to speak with.” “Oh?” “Yes.” To her confused looking face he elated, “I’m Bragen McClendon’s brother.” “Yes - we’ve been expecting him! Why, he was supposed to arrive two days ago and we were actually beginning to think that his project had been shot down.” She paused, then asked for confirmation, “I suppose your presence is indicative that the project won‘t go forward.” Then she had another thought, “I hope that something of ill-fate hasn’t happened to him? Dustin did try to make contact with his office, but was unable to get through.” Dustin had met Bragen at a recent conference several months ago. Bragen’s arrival was to be a combination of volunteer work as well as the desire to get acquainted with the state of health involving this area - a private study which could lead to an explosion of much-needed growth for the area. How unfortunate should the study not go forward. And her brother had been so excited. He’d sacrificed what could have been a lucrative career in the big city in order to help this impoverished area. The study could change everything, including the state of health for Kanoke and the surrounding counties. Return to Previous Page Return to Page 1 of This Love Story
