“I’ve got to get to Shreveport by tomorrow morning,” he told her as she jetted the jeep into action, Kirk observing a grease mark along one white starched cuff. “This was only to be a side trip, but obviously - I missed a turn somewhere along the way.”

“I see.”

“Anywhere in the area where I can rent a car?”

“Unfortunately, the town is tiny. In fact, you’re riding in one of the few vehicles in the area.”

He didn’t look too happy over her statement and appeared to grow more impatient.

But he relaxed a bit when she told him, “However, you can make a call in town and have someone collect you. Might cost a pretty penny though - a taxi coming all this way.”

“Thanks again. Looks like I have little choice.” He paused then asked, “How long would you project until we reach town?”

“I can’t say exactly,” Breckland smiled. “It depends upon how long it takes Ilene to have her baby.”

Kirk jerked his head around to view her, then looked into the back of the jeep where his shocked eyes connected with the black bag which was currently resting beside his briefcase.
