But my, this woman was chatty. And she was very out of order in her confession. Then again, he'd have to overlook her ignorance on the matter. After all, she was Baptist.....

"Yes, I think the colors will do nicely," he managed.

He heard her issue a contented sigh before she plowed forward. "Thank you. That's nice to hear. I don't have any family to offer advice on the decor - and I moved away from all my friends so that I could open the cafe."

"I see. Please continue, my child."

"So.....I'm driving along and need a tank of gas, so I pull off the highway into a quaint little town. I saw this adorable bakery - with red and white-striped awnings. And you know, being a pastry chef and all....I was curious, so I went inside."

She paused as she detected the priest's stomach growling again.

"And they had the most-delicious looking pastries! One in particular captured my eye - a square delicacy called Gobble Squares."

"Did you say Gobble Squares?" he asked for confirmation.

"Yes, that's right - and that's what got me here, at the church in your confessional. I ordered a dozen Gobble Squares and gobbled down four of them - like a full-blown piglet," Cassidy rushed out, her voice laced with remorse. "I-I just couldn't help myself."

"So you have eight of these Gobble Squares left?" Father Jasper inquired, his stomach rumbling again.

"Indeed. In my car as we speak. And....well, if you tasted them, you'd understand my demise - the er....great temptation," she assured with a short nod, her knees starting to ache a bit from the kneel.

"Go collect the eight and place the box just outside the confessional before you re-enter," he instructed her.

It was totally out of order, but he was starving - and curious about these Gobble Squares. The young woman's story verged on the outrageous - and he had a bit of doubt in his mind to its truthfulness. Then again, she was Baptist, he reminded himself.

Cassidy rose - her knees suddenly thanking her and she quickly made her way out to her car.

Thankfully, there was a covered awning which protected her from the icy elements. She'd parked at the edge of it, deciding that because the parking lot was almost empty, no one would protest.

The snow had grown much deeper than it had been when she'd entered the church, which suddenly concerned her.

After doing as the priest had instructed, she entered the confessional booth and knelt again, hearing a shuffling sound through the grille, then smacking, and then a noise which sounded like someone licking their fingers.

The priest's back was to her, so she continued to kneel in silence for several tense moments. She needed to make haste, because if she didn't leave soon, the roadway would be impassable.
