An Angel for Christmas - a Free Online Love Story by Sky Taylor - Page 2
Thank goodness her purse and leather satchel were equipped with shoulder straps. Then again, the burden of the weight wasn’t that grand considering that these were the bulk of her possessions. Being an experienced nanny, she had determined there was wisdom in traveling light. Her last assignment had only lasted a year, but she was pleased with what she had accomplished in Master Brian. Sixteen was a difficult age. She had arrived to find a teenager plagued with many emotional conflicts, but had left behind a man who had obtained a newfound inner strength. And Raven felt proud that she had assisted him in coming full circle in his life - that she had played a part in lighting a bright path before him leading to a fruitful future. And now there was the matter of Millie Steele, a little child - only six years old, who had been wrongly accused. And Raven was here to set the record straight. Doing such was not a guarantee that she would obtain employment at Steele Manor. She was one of twelve applying for the nanny position. And if fate played her a rejected hand, she could always contact the agency which would allow her temporary lodging. The holidays had certainly put a cap on the availability of rooms in the area. Only two days until Christmas. Good thoughts; she must concentrate on good thoughts, she whispered to herself. Fate would be with her on this good-faith journey. It had compelled her to purchase the snow globe safely resting in her satchel, a present for her soon-to-be ward, Millie Steele - a last minute grab from the curiosity shop as she had waited for her taxi to arrive. Her attention was drawn back to the speaker box as an elderly gentleman’s voice echoed through the sound of the sifting snow which was quickly becoming engulfed inside the swirl of the north wind, “Chadwick here. May I be of assistance?” “Yes, indeed. Raven Collingsworth here. For the five o’clock interview.” “Of course,” Chadwick eased out, pausing to view the monitor which displayed Raven’s shivering form. Poor thing - a willowy wisp of a woman, quite cold judging from her shivering, thin form, Chadwick surmised, pressing a button to address her once again. “Ms. Collingsworth, I’ll be there directly,” he informed. “Thank you!” Raven returned, turning to view the manor, her gloved fingers furiously rubbing against her chilled arms.
