It was the dead of winter.
The heavens had opened - the snow sifting down on the black hood of Raven’s fur-lined cape as the taxi spiraled away into the distance, the hot breath of the gray-gas exhaust sifting over her legs as she bent slightly to settle the two over-stuffed suitcases on each side of her trim, shivering form.
Her eyes reached towards the sky, the gray leading to an endless core of falling snow which was growing stronger by the moment.
For once, the weatherman had been correct in his prediction; a blizzard was in the making and Raven suddenly pondered the validity of her rash actions.
Her blue eyes drifted towards the ominous structure stretched out before her; Steele Manor.
The rich, commanding exterior certainly appeared to fit its owner’s character.
Jude Steele.
He was the most prominent attorney in the valley, his face a constant in the news. Within the last five years, he had become a crusader for good based on his deeds and expertise in the legal arena. And thanks to his prevailing determination, many of the most heinous criminals were finally getting their due.
That thought sent shivers riveting down Raven’s spine, shivers that had nothing to do with the icy conditions. This big bold world was full of danger, full of evil - but fortunately, the good currently outweighed the evil…as long as one didn’t go searching for such she tacked onto her spiraling thoughts, thinking it best to concentrate instead on securing shelter from the storm.
It was with great care that she maneuvered through the snow-covered ground, making her way to the iron gates that separated Steele Manor from the rest of the world - a protected fortress which warranted such based on the legal cases entwined in Mr. Steele’s impressive career.
A black-gloved index finger pressed a red button residing in the center of a square box, Raven aware of the security cameras dangling overhead as she paused to rest the heavy cases beside her again.
