THE SHADOW RIDER, a Short Love Story - Page 5 In time, they assisted her in relocating to New York where she worked at an affiliate mission. Her earnings were meager but her lodging and food were free. And when Curry came into the world, no one had tried to take him from her. She had also been assisted in changing her last name from Browning to Learner, fearful that Lincoln might try to track her down and do heaven-knew-what to her and Curry. Turning from the bay window, her miserable thoughts collided with her current situation of affairs, anger taking the place of fear and apprehension. This was all Mick Chandler’s fault she silently stewed. He was the reason why Curry had arrived at this godforsaken stretch of land - the reason why he was intent on staying. And he was also responsible for not arranging for Curry to meet her at the airport. Suddenly, she regretted telling her son about his past - wishing that she would have just left things as they were.
