THE SHADOW RIDER, a Short Love Story - Page 4 “No, Curry-” “Mom, rest assured. No one knows about you - about us or what happened back…then. I promised you that I wouldn’t get into my past with anyone and I am a man that keeps my promise.” Dyana had missed her son intensely and eventually she had faced her fears and caught a flight to Texas, convincing herself that Curry had a valid point - that he deserved to know the Chandlers - his uncle and three cousins. And without Curry, New York had been a very lonely and cold place, the buildings around her more like giant dry bones than towers of steel filled with ordinary people. Dyana’s mind flew back to the present and instantly she grew anxious to see her son. She had been waiting for over an hour now, held hostage by her disturbing thoughts and memories. At least it was a relief to learn that Lincoln was no longer an issue. Unfortunately she had learned long ago about the brutal side of Lincoln Chandler. Even her own parents had been blinded by his charms - placing the blame that fretful night on her rather than Lincoln. After learning about the pregnancy, her parents refused to have any part of her and Dyana soon found herself wandering aimlessly through city ghettos and slum areas - managing to survive on the small donations of a few good Samaritans - one of which guided her to a mission where a kind pastor and his family had taken her in.
