A few minutes later, they were situated
in the truck, Nick twisting the key to turn over the engine. Dead. Nothing.
Not even a hum or tick.
"What's wrong with it?"
Fayne murmured, holding the wet neckerchief to her breasts.
"She's old and a bit cantankerous
at times," he told her as he tried the key again.
Dead. Nothing. Not even a hum or
tick.
An hour later, the woods had turned
blacker than a moonless night, Fayne gripped with insecurity and sheer fright.
What about the ghost that her brother had warned her about? He'd always been
a bit superstitious, as had she. And although many people didn't believe in
ghosts, she fiercely did.
"Now what?" she asked
as Nick entered the truck, the beam of the flashlight growing cold.
