Sandcastles & Mermaids, a Free Online Love Story by Sky Taylor - Page 2

“Well…..a total of thirty minutes….buried in the sand, that is,” Harry confirmed, turning his bald head and planting a kiss on the cheek of his wife of fifty-six years.

Wouldn’t want to live without her, he tacked onto his spiraling thoughts. Mary was his ‘all’, his ‘everything’, ‘the one’.

He continued in a drawl, “Of course, before those troublesome Wilson twins buried her in the sand, she spent the previous hour sprawled-out on the beach, decked out in her…bait.”

“Bait; you’re referring to her teensy white bikini she’s wearing?” Mary asked for confirmation, squinting her eyes to catch a clearer view of Elizabeth Manchester - rather her head as that was all that was visible for the moment. Not an easy thing to spot as her blond hair tended to blend well with the color of the sand.

“Exacto.”

“This must be the tenth play she has made for Jay since her arrival yesterday. Lounging on the beach in the heat of the day - like some desperate lizard woman…yet our Jay hides in the office performing needless paperwork as an excuse. Perhaps if he had not promised to return to the beach later today, she would have remained indoors.” Then, “Darling, do you think that our little boy is dense?”

“He’s….picky,” Harry finally decided. “But wouldn’t you agree that in this circumstance, that’s a good thing?”

“Yes, dear, oh my,” Mary echoed, still in thought.

“Then again, it was Elizabeth who forced a promise from him,” Harry paused to remind. “Agreeing was the only way that Jay could escape her well-sharpened claws.”

“Yes, bright red ones,” Mary echoed again, deciding that they closely matched her own current shade of lipstick. “But…..dear….he explicitly told her that he wouldn’t be returning until much later today - in preparation for the Tiki Torch event.”

Based on Elizabeth’s rather foolish actions, it was clearly obvious that she wasn’t leaving until he arrived again. As time had slowly passed, she had remained on the beach, applying more sunscreen, brushing her hair until Mary was quite certain she would end up as bald as her Harry.
