The following morning, Bianca dressed in jeans and a blue pullover sweater, the weather being a bit brisk for autumn. Rebel was waiting for her and after a swift breakfast they headed for the stables. He told the stable boy to saddle a white mare who looked docile and had been very friendly with Bianca. Rebel tended to his own horse, the black stallion that her and Mitzi had seen him riding that first day.
The ride out to the pasture was a long and refreshing one. No words were exchanged, but an unspoken harmony existed between the two of them. The men were all gathered around a campfire dousing down the last dregs from their morning coffee. An army of steers lay scattered about them feasting on the still-green fields of coastal. Rebel began the introductions, his voice deep and unreadable - as usual. " Bianca Curtis, my sister-in-law," he introduced her to his men, and she was surprised by his confession. She got the impression that he had wanted to be linked to her as he had uttered her name, but of course that was a ridiculous notion, she silently decided. He gazed at her then pointed out the men as he addressed them by name. " Cotton, Dooley, Chester, Jon, Jack, Earnest, Abe and Talley." They all nodded, several sets of eyes running quizzically over her.
