Bianca twisted her mouth into an instant scowl. Darn Rebel Lancer and darn his big bovine bull!

"Wonderful!" she mocked, tossing her hands to the wind, reminding the mute Jake of her dead father. He had also held a short temper, one that Bianca had inherited.

"Well, it's not so bad -"

"Not so bad!" she yelled, tossing back her mane of long blond hair.

Buddy, the ranch's sheepdog, came hassling over to Jake and nudged his hand for affection. "Not now, son," he scolded, but the dog only licked his hand.

Jake twisted his mouth, trying to ignore Buddy who had suddenly hiked one leg, obviously protesting the lack of affection.

Bianca watched what followed then the dog pranced off, completely satisfied with himself.

She eyed Jake and he sheepishly commented, "Bad habit of Buddy's. But… he's as good a sheepdog as they come."

"Yes," she mocked tersely. "Now I understand why most of our sheep have yellow wool."

Jake blinked his eyes like a shutter stuck in neutral and Bianca finally suggested, "Go change, Jake. I'll handle Maude's incident on my own. Mister Lancer will certainly get a piece of my mind!"
