" Maude?" he inquired, his mouth quirked in amusement, which only served to further irritate Bianca.

" Our milk cow," she explained tightly. " Jake, our foreman," she tacked on meaningfully, " had the devil of a time dislodging him from…our barn," she finally finished uncomfortably.

" Bianca -"

" Please, not now, Mitzi," she scolded her sister who had suddenly joined her.

" But, Bianca -"

She said, " He's not the one, dear. This is Dale Lancer. It is his brother, Rebel, whom you seek to destroy."

Bianca looked at her in confusion then followed Mitzi's pointed index finger.

A towering male stood outlined in worn jeans and a blue double-yoked western shirt. He had broad shoulders and the shirt was tapered against his muscular torso. The large feet were encased in rugged dingo boots that looked as though they had overseen their days working the prairie. His hands were covered in fringed tight leather gloves, which he did not bother to extract.

Bianca was not aware that she had been staring for so long until Mitzi nudged her like a faithful horse, sending her awkwardly forward, toward the enemy.
