"Sorry," Dooley echoed, eyeing Bianca's red face and Rebel's stern one. Then, "One thing about your men, Boss. We don't believe in trespassing." As he wandered away, Bianca could have argued the point but wisely chose to keep her thoughts to herself. She still felt stunned by Rebel's announcement, a ridiculous announcement, yet she was grateful for his intervention and for not allowing things to escalate. And his statement was meaningless to everyone except the two cowboys.
She turned to him, still breathless by the encounter and told him, "Thank you." However, he seemed aggravated at her for some reason. He told her, "Cotton and Dooley have worked at the Briar since day one and this is the first time that either one of them have challenged my words." "Don't you dare blame me!" she warned, suddenly angry herself. "You insisted on bringing me here - to mingle with your group of restless men. It wasn't my idea." Then she whirled around and headed for her white horse. She wasn't staying and taking any more from him. He yelled at her, but she didn't stop. When she had ridden half the journey back to the main house she turned in her saddle finding Rebel heavy on her trail, only yards in the distance. She coaxed her mount onward, tapping the flanks lightly with her booted heels but Rebel whistled and the horse slowed to a stop, obeying his commands just as his men had done. Before she could fully recover he was by her, yanking her off the saddle in one, swift movement.
