Bianca drove the half-expired jeep down the dirt road at lightning speed, her younger sister, Mitzi, waving and coughing from the passenger side.

Green fields of coastal shouldered the east and west, and a swarm of giant turkey vultures soared high above, circling the dead carcass of the steer below.

" You're making a mistake," Mitzi warned as she fought the cloud of dust. " Our ranch is a small plateau compared to the grandeur and vastness of The Eagles' Briar. I - I realize that you are much more headstrong and - and determined than me, but you don't understand the power of Rebel Lancer," she fumbled out awkwardly to the silent, irate Bianca as she tried to study her through the thick curtain of dust.

Even now, her sister Bianca sat in regal beauty, cocooned in her tower of anger, her delicate face set with sea blue eyes and draped with long blond hair.

Mitzi inwardly sighed. Bianca was much like their father had been - so stubborn and headstrong. This attitude would not set will with the Lancers. Things had changed since Bianca had been away.
