Frankie became ill again, Landon carrying him into the bathroom. Shortly afterwards, the doctor arrived.

He sighed deeply as he stuffed his bag with the medical instruments he had used and mumbled, “Can’t get away from patients, even on vacation.”
Pepper widened her eyes as Landon briefly disappeared, then returned with his billfold, pulling out two, one hundred dollar bills for Grumpy’s efforts. The doctor nodded, stuffed the bills on top of the medical instruments in his bag, then left.
Landon twisted his lips with a sardonic smile and eased out, “And I thought that Pappy was cranky. Doctor Keel takes the cake!”Pepper went to arrange the blankets on the children, then mocked, “With a name like that, what did you expect?”
They shared a laugh, Landon coming to her and pulling her to him, placing a feathery kiss into her mussed hair. She felt as if she looked like Frankenstein’s bride, but that was okay if Landon found her to his liking. And it appeared that indeed he did, or that kiss would not have been so spontaneous, so real.
