One Indian Summer, a Short Love Story by Sky Taylor - Page 3 "Yes, a total nutbag," Indoria continued to share, Brogan really wishing that she wouldn't. "Why else would the woman have ran off with Brett's best friend, Chris?" Brogan drew a hand to her Adam's apple, making an attempt to swallow - and follow Indoria's scatty story. Feeling inclined to ask for clarification, she eased out, "I take it that Ricky was female and-and Chris was male, correct?" "Wrong!" Indoria blurted out, Brogan growing more confused. If her son swung to the left, what would he want with a woman? No wonder he was infatuated with his cows - cattle, she swiftly amended. "Well, you are half-right, dear," Indoria pacified. "Ricky was female and so was Chris. I have to admit that they made a lovely couple. To Brett's misfortune, of course," she tacked on, her voice sounding a bit remorseful.
"Of course," Brogan sympathized, not knowing why. Then again, she did know why. Her bank account desperately needed this assignment as it was thinner than Indoria's eyebrows - which looked practically plucked-to-death. In every sense of the word, Brogan was a bona fide starving artist and it was getting a bit old - eating noodles and fake ham. In fact, Brett might do well to keep an extra eye on his cows - cattle, she instantly corrected and feeling very proud of herself. And if she didn't get something substantial in her tummy soon.... It had been ages since she had enjoyed a nice fat steak. The grandfather clock swallowed by the massive room continued ticking away the time, Indoria's mouth growing quite active as she discussed her problem-son, Brett. Something must be wrong with him, Brogan went on to decide as she focused on Indoria's mouth, soon growing lost in her words, as if the woman had drugged her.
