The impending blizzard was due to arrive within the hour and was certain to cover the valley town in snow. It was already colder than the deep-freeze outdoors, the moon over the sea in the distance fading fast. But it wasn’t the news of the blizzard that haunted her, rather the human-interest story that had been building for two long weeks. It began when a local, rather-famous attorney Eric Grayson was burglarized in broad daylight. Along with the monetary valuables, the crooks had stolen his beloved companion, a small cocker spaniel named Chi-Chi. In the end, the culprits had been two trusted employees of Mr. Grayson - his chef and housekeeper. Although they had been charged and locked away until a trial could be set, the whereabouts of Chi-Chi remained a mystery with Chef and Housekeeper remaining tight-lipped. And for the last two weeks, Mr. Grayson had appeared on the television, on the radio and in the newspaper, pleading for assistance in finding the lost Chi-Chi. A substantial reward was also in the mix. Just thinking about a lost dog alone in the impending blizzard caused more shivers to run up and down Jordan’s spine - due to the inhumane circumstances rather than the shivering cold.
