Medallion Beach, a Free Online Love Story by Sky Taylor - Page 2

And if Forrest hadn’t been such a close friend, she would have wasted no time in setting the situation straight. Due to Tesa’s condition - the lady didn’t need undue stress, and Forrest had created plenty of that.

It was all so….awkward and Brook had to wonder if the child were Forrest’s, or his brother Brendon’s.

But one thing was certain - it was much quiet and much cooler along the beach she decided as she searched for a spot to shield herself against the stiff winds of autumn. Dusk was approaching and the sun was nothing more than a gold coin lodged in the western horizon.

As her eyes darted over the area, she noted seaweed and lichen clinging to the sides of the tall cliff in the distance, like a child to its mother.

The salt water took on a beautiful amber hue as the last rays of the sun hovered above, swelling into giant waves and crashing loudly against the rocks in the distance, the sound almost deafening.

Brook finally settled against a large boulder washed smooth by a combination of time and abrasive saltwater. Climbing to the top of the dome, she sat and viewed the never-ending sea, pulling her legs beneath her in an effort to conserve warmth.

Two more weeks. She didn’t possibly see how she could survive that length of time with the two squabbling brothers and the beautiful Tesa. The  situation was nothing like the masterpiece that Forrest had painted - which had more along the lines of a peaceful vacation haunt, a space of time to relax and revitalize.

But when she had told him her plans to leave and return to the city, Forrest had challenged her with, “Do what you wish, but if you leave, don’t bother ever reporting for work again.”

Although she didn’t need his attitude, she did need her job. However, going forward she knew that their comfortable relationship would never be the same.
