Brook had taken refuge down by the never-ending sea, hoping to escape the torrent of emotions that rushed among the crowd which had gathered for the annual McGuire family reunion. Gossip and accusations were running thick, the relatives dwelling on the aspects of the romantic triangle - two brothers and the Irish beauty, Tesa.
The abyss between the McGuire brothers was too vast for Brook to comprehend. A large well of hate separated them and she had no desire to become wedged in the middle. It was as simple as that.
Tesa, shouldered a great deal of blame for the ongoing battle between them. Of course, Brook was only an outsider looMedallion Beach into the glass house, although at times things appeared much clearer to strangers than those housed within.
Forrest McGuire, her boss as well as her dear friend, had brought her here - to his brother’s beach house, the meeting place for the reunion. When he had originally informed her that the trip to his brother’s beach house was strictly a business trip for wrapping-up family property issues, she had innocently believed him. After all, he had never lied to her before. Apparently, Tesa appeared to be the property issue in question - at least for the most part.
If Brook would have known their destination was a family reunion - particularly one involving an excess of Irish whiskey, she wouldn’t have accompanied him. Not that she and Forrest didn’t have a non-business relationship. They thoroughly enjoyed another’s company - often going to the movies or a restaurant together, but friends they would always remain. Mixing their comfortable rapport with family issues had the potential to taint things, as it reached a too-personal level in Brook’s opinion.
And good luck in trying to convince Forrest of that, she went on to silently mock.
But the situation went a step further, off into the deep end as Forrest had the gall to use her as his cat’s paw - to make Tesa jealous - a very pregnant Tesa.
And he had reveled in Tesa’s jealously, her rage on the verge of spinning out of control. It had been at this point when Brook had decided to take solace on the beach as she had no desire to be confronted by the woman.
