Jungle Fever, a free short love story - Act 3 - Page 32 With Bleau's work completed, they began the long journey home, their direction toward the Savannah Woodlands. Their loads were light, Tia insisting that she carry her share. They had consumed the last of the canned items two days ago and had been living on the dry packs which should have been held back for the trek home. All but that one damned can of chili - which Tia insisted on carting home. Their secret joke, he supposed and the thought was an enduring one, pulling a smile to his face. But there weren't as many packs as Bleau would have liked to have had - due to his delightful, though unexpected guest. And also due to the fact that he'd given the Englishman an ample supply for his journey. That can of chili might mean the difference between death and survival.
On the positive side, the lighter that they could travel, the easier their journey would be. They would deal with their food supply issue along the way, noting that Tia ate like a bird. And she was well aware of the shortage and he hoped that she wouldn't be difficult in holding back at meal time. Then again, she was a sensible woman. He would be doing a lot of clearing along the trail and his level of strength was a key factor, Tia well aware of the fact - of how important it was to keep up his level of energy. And he was certain this would factor into the food supply equation. Shifting his thoughts, he genuinely hoped that the Englishman had made good passage, for the trail would be much easier to tread. Tia had been a benefit, making the distribution of supplies an advantage. Her pack held half of their food supply and a few basic essentials such as spare clothing. Not once had she complained. His own pack held the remainder of their food supply as well as the results of his studies over the past two years, a tent and a small assortment of camping gear necessary for food preparation.
