“You what!”
“Rented out Grandma’s cottage while you were gone. I thought that you’d be happy about that,” Wesley eased out, removing his hat and scratching his head in the process with his fingertips.
My oh my, the weather had certainly heated-up all of a sudden. And how many times did Hunter need to be told that the cottage had been rented out? Five times already! Enough.
Hunter’s eyes held a glaze as he raked a frustrated glance down his foreman’s rail-like frame. In the first place, Grandma was his grandma - not Wesley‘s. And as he opened his mouth to continue the explanations, Hunter held up a calloused hand and told him, “Don’t even try to explain your way out of this one. We have a ranch to run, Wesley - no room for renters or the trouble they can cause.”
“She’s just a little thang,” Wesley eased out, rubbing the back of his neck now. For some reason, Hunter always managed to give him headaches. So high-strung and hardheaded to boot; the two were a volatile combination.
“She?”
“Grace, to be exact,” Wesley told him. “Shouldn’t pose one lick of a problem where the ranch is concerned. Never seen such a tiny lady before, especially one with such good gear…”
“What?” Hunter asked for clarification, narrowing his forehead. Then, “Never mind. I don’t care to know. Just give me her phone number and I’ll give her a call - tell her that the cottage is not for rent.”
“Can’t do that,” Wesley eased out, twisting his mouth to one side. “She has already moved into the cottage.”
As Hunter widened his dark eyes, Wesley continued, “Besides, Grandma approved of her. Said she will never return to her cottage. And ‘bout time, too. Grandma‘s getting on in years and it‘s best that she stays permanently at the main house.”
