Lace would begin working for Chancy in two weeks. She had located a nice furnished apartment not far from where she would be working. Even Uncle Quint had approved. He wasn't as overprotective of her as he'd been in the beginning. She supposed that he was finally realizing she was old enough to handle her life on her own. Even so, it was nice having him as close by as possible.

The apartment was within walking distance to Chancy's office building. It was small; one bedroom and one bath. The carpeting was new and the rooms had just been redecorated in soft shades of pink pastel. The furnishings were simple and inviting, reminding her of the home she had shared with her father.

On her way down the steps she bolted into a rock-hard body and when she would have lost her balance, two strong arms reached out to steady her. As she recovered she looked into the young face of a man of average height with a very muscular build. He had familiar green eyes and his serious face bloomed a smile as he sent an appraising look over her disheveled form.

"You okay?" he questioned.
