He had met a lady there who had been on vacation as well. By a fluke of luck she lived only a couple hour's drive from Donners Crossing. So everything had worked out wonderfully where Rex was concerned; if only she could be so lucky.

During the next few weeks they stayed busy catching up on backlogged work. Lace had been so rushed for time that she had been unable to visit Uncle Quint. And she found that she missed seeing Makenna.

Rex drew her from her thoughts as he told her, "The party is set for next Saturday night. All the invitations have been mailed, right?"

"Yes, Rex, you know I'm thorough."

He smiled. "Why don't you spank me for asking?"
