The Hen That Laid the Golden Egg - a Free Online Love Story by Sky Taylor - Page 3
Bill widened his dark eyes as the lovely lady set Milton back onto the ground, Dicky strutting-up and wrapping his neck lovingly around the tattered bird. “Ah, now that’s more like it,” Mattie cooed, her face suddenly lit with a warm smile as she praised the post-naughty bird, scooping him up and continuing to ooh and aah. Bill was still locked in a state of enchantment, blinded by Mattie's beauty when a small dog no bigger than a rat suddenly appeared on the walk and charged at him, grabbing his pant leg and pulling him along growling and gnawing. "Killer! Quit that!" Mattie yelled through the distance, depositing Dicky on the floor of the chicken coop and racing to free the dog from the stranger's pant leg which proved to be a great effort. And when she had accomplished the feat, Killer stood with a piece of Bill's pants lodged inside the razor-sharp teeth. "Oh - what a bad boy!" she scolded as Bill tried to collect himself, the fabric hanging out of the dog’s mouth as he delivered a small growl. “Killer! That’s enough,” she told him, and the dog turned and vanished down the trail, taking his treasure with him.
