How would the lady react? Anger? Certainly not a wine and roses occasion, he silently mused.
According to the information documented in her file, Ms. Anderson had lost her father a couple of months ago, but everything had went to heaven in a hand basket several months prior. Apparently, she'd been keeping the bank at bay by promising payment in full - as soon as her insurance check arrived.
But as month after month had passed without payment, repossession had been pursued. Shame too, because the balance left on the note was just under five grand. A little paint and new wood could go a long way, he went on to speculate as he observed the cottage again.
What was even more shameful was the fact that Ms. Anderson had visited the bank several times in an attempt to refinance the small amount. But no - Phil required a lump-sum payment.
Darn it! Why was he always so sympathetic to lost causes? This unsightly task had left him with a knot as big as Dallas in the pit of his stomach. And it hadn't helped that he'd skipped breakfast this morning, something he would have rectified if not for the absence of the repo man.
At least it was a nice spring day, the sun warm on his face as he passed through the white picket fence and headed towards the front door of the cottage which appeared to be hanging a bit crooked. The sound of a lady calling out in the distance caused him to stop dead in his tracks - and she didn't sound too happy.
"Dicky! You bad, bad bird. Just look what you've done to Milton!" she tossed out, holding up a rather motley looking rooster in front of what Bill assumed to be Dicky.

Obviously a rooster fight and it appeared that Dicky had gotten the best of Milton.
