Ghost Manor - a Free Online Love Story by Sky Taylor - Page 4
While guests would eagerly overnight at Featherstone Manor, it was highly unlikely they would do such at Ghost Manor, given its history and local lore. Although she could ask her parents for another loan, she didn’t feel comfortable about doing such as they were getting on in years. Her mother had been in her mid-twenties when Audrey was born, then in her fifties when the twins had unexpectedly come along - so much for the assumed ‘change of life’. Father had been thrilled as he had always longed for a son. Having two had been even better, Audrey smiled in reflection, allowing the curtain to fall back into place, along with her unrequited dreams. At least for now, she comforted herself, her thoughts switching back to her beloved parents. Both were still active with mom in her late fifties and father turning sixty, two months ago - although she could see signs of both slowing down. Father was challenged whenever the boys wanted to play sports, and he was further challenged by the disintegrating health of his eyes which wasn’t a good thing for one who abhorred eyeglasses, and who refused surgery to correct said eye condition. Last week while mowing, he had obliterated the boys’ football helmets, thinking they were gopher mounds. And it wasn’t until he viewed the marred objects up close that he had realized his mistake. The upside was that the boys had been delighted over their new helmets. Audrey paused in her steps, standing just below the dangling chandelier exploding with reflective sparkles of light. Mac and Jac were silent, awaiting her critique of their costumes. And from the look on their faces, she knew it had better be good as these boys had worked tirelessly to achieve their harrowing effects.
