My, that would be a magnificent sight against the splendor of the setting sun. And a bit of bright paint would help erase the eerie lore associated with Ghost Manor - or to be precise, ‘Gost Manor’ - the name so-given based on its last inhabitants, Mister and Mrs. Charles Gost - pronounced ‘ghost’.
According to legend, such a loving, romantic couple to meet an untimely demise - and a mysterious, undetermined demise at that. One day, they had simply vanished. According to the locals, the Gosts had no other living relatives and as the taxes mounted, the city eventually took over the property.
And as the months revolved into years, brambles and thorns had completely overtaken the front bust of the manor, bleeding into the backyard and beyond. And such a nice piece of property - bordering the lake as it did.
Over the years, there had been multiple attempts to sell the property, but due to the local folklore, those attempts had failed miserably, and Audrey had been devoid of available funds.
Supposedly, the legend entailed the manor being inhabited by ghosts - which in itself held a bit of dark humor, Audrey decided amid her reflection, hearing her brothers fussing in the background with their Halloween costumes and trick-or-treat bags, as they prepared for their adventure.
Her rambling thoughts continued to surface as she considered the potential. The pointy turrets that were heavily armored with tattered shingles jutting up from the north and south wings, the multi-pane windows, the extensive gingerbread work - but a purchase was out of the question, therefore it was useless to dream - but she just couldn‘t help herself.
Ghost Manor was much larger than Featherstone Manor - much more area than she could ever use. But….if there was any way possible, it would allow her to quit her job at the library and turn Featherstone Manor into a proper bed & breakfast, and perhaps transform part of Ghost Manor into a village bakery and restaurant while offering guided tours of the beautiful old lady.
