Ghost Falls, a Short Love Story by Sky Taylor - Page 4

"Paul!  No!" Lisa shouted, lunging forward as he pulled the trigger, but other than the loud thud that she made as she bounced against the packed earth, everything was silent.

Almost immediately, Paul was by her side, assisting her into a sitting position as Joe hastened to the campfire.

"Honey, I'm sorry I frightened ya," Paul told her, dusting her off and checking her over for damage. "Just a toy gun - backup for... just in case."

"What the dickens happened?" Joe asked, a bit breathless as he'd closed the distance in record time.

"I-I can't believe you told them I was your-your concubine!  And-and your accent was horrendous.  I don't see how they managed to swallow your shallow act," she mused incredulously, trying desperately to cope with the lie that Kade had managed only moments ago to the three strangers.   Click to continue
