Where the Four Winds Meet, a Humorous Western Super Romance - Page 49

Leif sat by her, his deep baritone uniting in harmonious melody with her high soprano.  She caught several curious glances fall their  way and she was momentarily debased when she saw the two old sisters from the store singe her with a branding glance.

Art Heinman's closing prayer was longer than the sermon had been and quite Pharisaic to Farrell's flared ears.  Winded; she had expected such and she imagined that Pastor Bob was regretting calling on him to close out the service, particularly with his precious pot roast at home growing cold and lonely.

After the service ended, Farrell went to locate English.  He was talking to a young, pretty girl who blushed when she appeared.

English introduced them, then he and Farrell left in the van.

After a quick change of clothes, she saddled Mercury and headed for Crooked River, anxious for a look at Sarah.

No one was visible on the grounds so she made her way into the stables without announcing her presence.  She supposed that most of the men had been given the day off and Leif might have taken the time to grab a nap after his long, almost sleepless night.

Sarah perked her ears and neighed when she saw her, then she bobbed her head excitedly.  The colt looked agile and spry, much different than during his first few hours of life.

It didn't take her long to complete her examination on Sarah and she was finishing up when she heard spurs jingling in the distance.

Curiously, she glanced up, expecting to see Leif, or perhaps Hiram but her eyes settled onto the handsome stranger who had offered her help with the jeep yesterday. Had it only been yesterday? So much had happened.

He flashed a wide smile in her direction and she returned the gesture.  When he had breached the distance between them he rolled his dark eyes slowly down her curved form outlined in the jeans and blue cotton top.

Farrell tensed, feeling as though he had undressed her and wishing he hadn't been so thorough in his glance.

He pointed an index finger at her and eased out, "Farrell Connors, right?"

She nodded carefully, her eyes not leaving the handsome face.

He grinned again and supplied, "Terry Raider.  It's a pleasure to meet up with you again."
