Duel escorted her to the jackaroo's quarters and after a round of introductions he placed the orders for the day and everyone scattered. The only familiar face amid the workers was Clancy Nichols and Duel had made certain that she kept her distance from him.

Duel led her to the barn and when her eyes shifted onto the pens of small lambs, she rushed eagerly ahead of him, totally delighted by the sight.

When he reached her, Shannon had already knelt upon the ground and was sticking her fingers through the palings of a creep, a smile stretched across her beautiful face. She giggled with delight as one lamb sniffed at her hand. She had totally forgotten Duel's presence until she heard his voice from above her.
