Shannon felt an acute pain for Helen, realizing that she couldn't have been so strong given the same set of circumstances. She loved both Jon and Shaun and could not fathom her life without either one of them. A lump popped into her throat as Helen rambled on and Shannon tried to concentrate on the lovely room.

The carpet was a baby blue as were the walls. The blankets and matching accessories were a pastel pink, and paralleled exceptionally well with the blue. There was a bin of colorful toys and a menagerie of stuffed animals about the room. Suspended carousels hung over the two cribs and over the two larger beds in one corner of the room.

Helen pointed to an archway and Shannon followed her along the thick carpeting. "This is your room, my dear. It is convenient, do you agree?"

Shannon entered the large room, taking in the fine wood furnishings and the brass bed. Her entire apartment back in New York had not been as large.

The comforter on the king-sized bed was an emerald hue of velvet and the carpet a deeper shade of green.

"Oh, Helen! It's very lovely," she gasped, going to inspect the balcony that lay cupped on the western wall.
