Shannon should have pushed him away, but she didn't. It had been too long and she wanted to be with him as much as he wanted to be with her.

The night was long and hot, more explosive that the fierce storm of the day. And when the morning sun sifted through the curtains of her room, he was gone, as before - only the pendant of the falcon on the bedside table. And Shannon realized that she loved him more now than ever.

The twins were still in bed and after checking on them, she turned her attention to Katrina's letters. She knew that Duel wouldn't be back, not until tonight as was his usual routine. And there would be damages to check out now that the storm had passed.

She sat back against propped-up pillows that were still saturated with Duel's spice-scented cologne and read,

'Dear Shannon,

I am concerned because I have written several times and you haven't replied. In case you have not received my other letters for some reason, I will explain again.'

Shannon shuffled through the other envelopes, the dates going weeks back. This was Katrina's most recent letter. She continued to read,

'I am finally marrying Jeff, the doctor from Queens. He popped the question after I returned from Australia. I guess that it is true that absence makes the heart grow fonder! Anyway, we are going to honeymoon in Australia, would you believe?

We are getting married in two weeks, on the fifteenth of this month. Please meet me at the Wallaby where we stayed on our trip. If I should miss you, I will make it out to the station where you work. I will ask for directions at the hotel.'
