" I'm not drunk!" he argued. I only had a few tinnys on the way back home."

" And how many is a few?"

He shrugged then said, " Don't know….six, maybe twelve."

" How dare you drive and drink - putting not only your life and limbs at risk, but everyone else's in your path," she grated out, completely frustrated with him now.

She sighed and turned to find her bedroom, the letters capped in her hand.

" Come back here, Shannon Flanders!" he demanded sternly. " Where do you think that you're going? To mope over his stupid letters?" he mocked in a slurred tone amid his heavily Australian accent, the combination a confused jumble, one that Shannon was barely able to make out.

She started to tell him they were not from the imaginary D, but from Katrina. There wasn't a return address listed, but she recognized the deep scrawl of Katrina's stout hand. She had no desire to face him tonight, not while he was lost in his clouded haze.
