Her reaction is so set-in-stone that the locals have captioned a phrase for Maude and her episodes." "Yes?" "They call her Old Gawk, Balk and Walk," he eased out, Ivy trickling out a giggle. And John decided that she had a very nice giggle. As he collected his thoughts he continued, "And the feeling appears to be mutual. The snakes don't like her, either." Ivy gazed at him and in a quite serious tone informed, "It's that red dress she was wearing. Does she always wear red?"
"Huh?" he eased out, half amused, half confused by her comment as he further decided that he also liked Ivy's English accent. Wonder what the kids would make of that? "Red. Snakes, particularly rattlers," she continued, proud of herself for her ability to produce a perfectly good western word, that being 'rattlers', "don't like the color red." "They don't?" John asked, smirking a bit now. "Actually, I read about this in Go West & Grow - the same magazine where I spotted your advertisement," she tacked on, drawing an index finger to her temple as she tried to recall the article that had one of the biggest snakes she'd ever seen coiled up in the sidebar. Even now, she had to struggle not to shake as she thought about the frightening photo. And she didn't dare chance a look at the rattlesnake tank. |
